Lif in United Kingdom

Living and working in the UK means adapting somewhat to the local culture. Up until recently, there was a very rigid separation between the ranks in British business. The management class, usually from the “great and the good,” often was brought into an organization laterally (managers did not come up through the ranks, but rather were moved about in the stratosphere from one organization to another). Rank, additionally, had its privileges: separate dining rooms, separate floors, separate corporate events. Business life today is more fluid, although the degree to which this change has occurred is industry-specific. In most cases, those larger industries that have emerged out of previously state-run essentials, such as telecommunications, transportation, energy, and heavy manufacturing, are still, in many ways, the most conservative.
